Music Industry News - as it happens
Source: MusicDish - February 19, 2002

Warp Radio (203 AM and FM stations) streamed 611,975 hours all-in for the week of February 4, making it the Numero Uno streaming radio network for that period. StreamAudio (221 AM and FM) was second with 570,308 hours, and Radio Free Virgin (52stations) was both number three and the most popular Internet-only/digital music network, says MeasureCast which is carving itself a comfortable niche providing Net radio broadcasters with next-day streaming audience size and demographics data.

In MeasureCast's weekly Top 25T chart of individual Web radio stations (ranked by total time spent listening, or TTSL), Virgin Radio held on to the top spot with 292,186 hours. JazzFM took second place again with 267,458 hours. However, it attracted 27,186 more listeners than Virgin Radio. MEDIAmazing spent another week in third place with a TTSL of 189,696. Newcomers to the Top 25 chart include Internet-only broadcasters Beethoven.com (excludes SHOUTcast audience) and Lycos Top 40 (streamed by RadioCentral Networks), and New York's WFUV-FM (Fordham University).

MeasureCast says 28% of Internet radio listeners were in the 25-34-year-old age group; 57% were under age 35, 29% were younger than 25; and, and 6% were older than 55. Some 68% of listeners were men. Countries with the largest number of Internet radio listeners included the US, the UK, Canada, Japan, and Mexico. Some 80% of all listening occurred between 5 am and 5 pm Pacific and the peak listening day was Wednesday February 6 with 19% of all listening occurring on this day. The peak listening hour was 10 am Pacific, with 8% of the day's listening.
