Garageband Records in hard times
Music Industry News - as it happens
Source: Mi2N - February 17, 2002
"We're going through a rough period right now at Garageband. We want to
apologize to you about this, and ask for your patience and support." That
was what you saw in a GB press release, referring to the fact you can't -
for the moment, anyway - access any of the site's music or information. A
visit to the site on February 17 revealed you can still read, and post,
messages if you use one of the email links below. But that's about it.
"Earlier this week, a deal which is critical to the distribution of our
records and which we've been negotiating for some time fell apart," said
Garageband, going on, "It goes without saying that it's difficult to be in
the record business without releasing records. To conserve cash as we
endeavor to close another distribution agreement, we have pulled the
garageband.com website off line."
If you're a Garageband devotee, there's a makeshift BBS at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/garagebandrecords/ where you'll find group
email addies. In the meanwhile, "If we're not able to accomplish something
in the next few weeks, we'll share the sad news with you and tell you how we
plan to wind up our business," say the guys, adding, "In the meantime,
please keep your fingers crossed."
