"We've seen an incredible increase in web traffic and downloads on our site
since the release of DivX 5.0," said Tay Nguyen, director of technology
delivery at DivXNetworks. DivX 5.0 was to all intents and purposes
'launched' in an online auction which ended on March 2 when someone bid
$6,400 for, "a kick-ass, high-end PC that includes a CD with the golden
master build of DivX 5.0".
"... we had high expectations for the release and prepared our technical
operations accordingly," Tay Nguyen went on. "But the five-fold increase in
site traffic and downloads in the last few days have surpassed even our own
expectations, to the point where we're sustaining more than 150 Mbps of
outbound network traffic."
Jordan Greenhall, co-founder and ceo, said, "In just two days, we've
achieved adoption numbers that surpass any of our competitors in an
equivalent period, and we've done it without multi-million dollar marketing
campaigns or promotional clips that force people to download our technology."
Optimized for the seamless distribution and playback of "true" DVD-quality
video over broadband networks, DivX 5.0 has data compression ratios that,
"exceed virtually any technology available today," promises DivX, continuing
that the new product line also includes DivX Pro 5.0, the first version of
DivX video technology built specifically for video professionals. It can
achieve equivalent video quality at file sizes up to 41% smaller than
previous versions of the technology, at over twice the encoding speed of
competing technologies, says DivX.
And DivX 5.0 includes some very cool features such as the ability to
precisely and intelligently allocate data through 'Psychovisual Modeling'.
With it, and using "knowledge of the Human Visual System (HVS)", DivX 5.0
assigns a 'Psychovisual Complexity Rating (PCR)' to each video frame and
removes data that can't be seen by human eyes in full-speed video sequences.
This improves the efficiency of video data allocation and increase the
overall video quality, says the company.
The standard version of DivX 5.0 is free for personal use, and DivX Pro 5.0
is available for a personal-use licensing fee or through a free ad-supported
version. To download the newly released DivX 5.0 product suite today, visit
