Carey gets the Razzzzzz
Music Industry News - as it happens
Source: MusicDish - March 23, 2002
Mariah Carey, who recently walked away with a 'settlement' fortune from
Britain's EMI even though her movie Glitter bombed, was voted Worst
Actress in the 22nd annual Razzies 'dis-honoring' the worst achievements in
film for 2001. She apparently scored a staggering 60% of all votes cast in a
field of five nominees.
MTV host Tom Green was voted Worst Actor and his 'shock comedy'
Freddie got Fingered was worst film. Canada's Green was the first
'winner' to personally accept an award.
"The balance of the RAZZIES went to one of 2001's Biggest Movie
Disappointments, the monkey-brained Tim Burton version of PLANET OF THE
APES," said the foundation's John Wilson. "The film not only took Worst
Remake or Sequel, it also won BOTH Supporting Awards: Original APES star
Charlton Heston (also named for his work in CATS & DOGS and TOWN AND
COUNTRY) was Worst Supporting Actor and former swimsuit model Estella Warren
swam her way to Worst Supporting Actress as both The Human Love Interest in
APES and the Character Equivalent of a Hood Ornament in Sylvester Stallone's
formulaic Formula One drama DRIVEN."
The Razzies are voted in by members (520 of them) of the Golden Raspberry
Foundation, including critics and movie fans. Awardees get a plastic
raspberry trophy sprayed with gold paint and worth an estimated $4.29. The
foundation has been giving raspberries since 1980.
