In a partnership which probably would have been seen as unthinkable a couple
of years back, DivXNetworks, which built the famous DivX video compression
technology, and the Fraunhofer Center for Research in Computer Graphics
(CRCG), a division of Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD) in
Darmstadt, Germany, say they've teamed up to jointly develop and integrate
digital rights management solutions for digital video and audio.
With more than 50 million downloads and an average of over 2 million
downloads per month, DivX video compression technology has become the de
facto standard for high-quality IP video.
"The research and development partnership will leverage Fraunhofer CRCG's
digital audio security expertise with DivXNetworks leadership in digital
rights management (DRM) for digital video," the companies say in a press
"Fraunhofer CRCG has developed innovative digital security for the
distribution of digital audio, including next-generation audio watermarking
"DivXNetworks has created and implemented a leading solution for protecting
high-quality video content that includes content and transaction
watermarking, digital encryption, and business rules management."
