Label: Shut Eye Records (
Genre: Various/College Radio Friendly

"Frequency Modification: A Low Watt Document" is an interesting title isn't it? It says a lot if you are willing to stop for a minute and read the revealing liner notes. This CD compilation embodies the spirit of indie music, and so do all the artists that contribute to it. College Radio embraces music like this wholeheartedly and the attitude behind it all. Yes, this is anti-establishment, nonconformity, and screw the government attitudes all rolled up into one nice little package. And besides all that, the music is great! How about that?

My friend Susan Yasinski, of Susan and the Surftones, always makes sure I get these great compilations that her group performs on. Now there is a woman that has the fire of independence in her heart. She rejected the status quo (she was a lawyer) and decided to do her own thing. Now there is a perfect example of the attitudes and beliefs of people that make indie music what it is and what it stands for.

I could single out quite a few songs, but that wouldn't be fair because there are so many good ones. Let's just say that this CD has a lot of great songs (20) from different genres available for your eclectic ears to enjoy. Each group is given a chance to shine as musicians and lyricists. There is rock, surf, punk, reggae, alt. country, and many different types of styles fused together. It doesn't seem to matter what kind of music it is, it all fits because of the theme and purpose of this project.

If you're feeling fired up, fed up, or just looking for some common ground in the music you listen to, this is your ticket to the show, and there is no waiting in line. Turn off that conformist FM crap and top-forty garbage you are listening to and put this in your CD player. This is the real deal with real people.
