Event Review: 2 Man Advantage
Prodigal Son, Chicago IL
A last second phone call from Go Cart Records had St@tic sending me to Prodigal Son for a show featuring the punkish-metal band, 2 Man Advantage. I had never been to the Prodigal, but was promised that the boys playing were top-notch. The band hails from Long Island and have been around for a couple of years, spreading their songs of beer, hockey and general good cheer. I like hockey and beer so maybe the band will be to my liking.
I showed up, sampled the chicken-tender type wares, drank beer and listened to the opening band, The Rotten Fruits, do a pretty energetic set for the 20 or so people there.
2 Man Advantage jumped onto stage shortly after the The Rotten Fruits left, and proceeded to put on a very good show, especially considering the circumstances: small bar and few people on a cold, rainy, Monday night. All the members came out in custom made hockey jerseys and rocked the shit. Surprisingly, the band was pretty tight for a punk band, and a lead singer who reminded me of Tad but with a sense of humor. At one point the lead singer lifted his Large to X-Large jersey over his head to reveal team spirit and the number 69 shaved out of his back hair. Tuff. Anyway they played, I enjoyed, people moshed (5 guys), blood was spilled, beer was consumed, the lead singer sweated, blah blah blah… point is these guys are good and I would see them again if I could.
