Anna Sheer - Dreamer
Artist: Anna Sheer (www.annasheer.com)
Title: Dreamer
Genre: Pop
Have you ever wished you could pick just what music wakes you up in the morning?
Something that is fresh, fills you up with enough positive hormones to Make you want to
start the coffee pouring into you? Young Anna Sheer just may be your chance if you hook
yourself into her uplifting, high energy sound.
From the Prairie Township Fish Fry to performances at Border's and the Columbus Arts
Festival, from performing to the Westland Area Business Association in Gala Event Hall to
giving the Arts Garden Party's Greater Hilltop Area League a grand singing event, Anna's
list of performance credits is as varied as it is driven. As this credit list is from July of 2001,
it's probably tripled as of this writing (May 2002). But the thing that impresses me Most is
the professional attitude of this young creature. I get a Lot of flashy promo kits in the mail, on
colored paper, maybe with feathers and sometimes intricate packaging (keep sending that
candy though!), but few, if any, have had the artist details that this one has. Newspaper and
magazine articles, emails from fans, prize notification from ASCAP, Complete contact info,
bio, etc. The only thing not included is lyrics. Not bad for someone born in 1984. Half my
age, and 1500 miles further down the road to stardom than I'll ever be.
That's because she has such a sweet voice, and writes pop tunes that are acoustic in nature
(thank the constant violin and piano, perhaps keyboard, for that). And yet the songs are so
happy and frolicsome, if you ever missed electrics or thought that 'true' pop couldn't be
achieved without plugging in, Anna will set you straight.
Though the album is only 25 minutes long, it's full. Full of long notes held to the heavens
among the bass and drum that accompany the strings and keys. Her voice is quite good for
a youngster; an adult too. She probably has a ways to go, especially since she's not relying
on the filter of studio tricks to keep her 'perfect' since, as I say, these are acoustic songs.
But, all the more reason to applaud her live-like set at the end of every tune.
