Music Industry News - as it happens

Experience Hendrix LLC, the successor to the Jimi Hendrix estate, has won a
High Court battle prohibiting Ed Chalpin and his PPX Enterprises Inc from
using early Jimi Hendrix recordings, other than those expressly referred to
in a 1973 High Court Order and contract.
Chalpin recorded Hendrix when the guitarist was a sideman in the obscure
rhythm and blues combo Curtis Knight & The Squires in the 1960s. He agreed
after a High Court battle in 1973 to: first, cease exploiting any Jimi
Hendrix music other than those recordings referred to in the 1973 High Court
Order; and, second, give up a number of master recordings in his possession.
The Court ordered Chalpin and PPX to pay 70% of Experience Hendrix's costs
of the action and to make a payment of £75,000 on account of those costs by
2 August 2002.
