Troubled Vivendi Universal's Vivendi Universal Net USA (VUNet USA) has
launched a truSONIC "business music service" following what are in effect
in-house agreements with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) and
Universal Music Enterprises (UME).
Once part of the moribund MP3.com, also owned by Vivendi, truSONIC uses the
Net to sell music and audio advertising to businesses such as restaurants,
supermarkets, offices and big-box retailers.
"With the addition of select Universal Music Group content, truSONIC
customers can enjoy a customizable collection of thousands of songs from new
and well-known artists in a variety of musical genres," says the company.
