A UK pirate radio station owner broadcasting across Bristol using the
station name 'Ragga FM' has been shut down and fined.
Radiocommunications Agency officers monitored 'Ragga FM' transmissions and
Henderson (30) was subsequently charged with two offences under the Wireless
Telegraphy Act 1949, "in relation to permitting premises he was in charge of
to be used for unlawful broadcasts, and using apparatus for wireless
telegraphy without a licence," says the agency.
He was fined about $150 for each charge and was ordered to contribute about
$450 towards prosecution costs. In addition, a forfeiture order was made for
a number of items including a transmitter, a mini disc player, a tape deck
and a mixer unit, which was said in court to be valued at about $5,360.
