Event Review: Gospel Music Association (GMA) Hosts Seminar in the Rockies
Songwriters and artists from the United States and throughout the world gathered in Estes Park Colorado, located in the heart of the scenic Rocky Mountains, for the Gospel Music Association's 28th Annual Seminar in the Rockies. From August 4-10, participants attended seminars geared for artists and musicians, songwriters, and those interested in other careers in the Christian Music Industry. Dove Award winning songwriters, record producers, A&R representatives, publishers, publicists and other industry professionals presented seminars, served as guest speakers and participated in panel discussions. Seminar topics included "Building a Great Lyric," "Marketing and Promotion for the Independent Artist," "Basic Tools for Songwriting," and "What You Need to Know Before Your First Recording Session."
Seminar participants were also able to register for the prestigious "Spotlight Vocal Competition" and the "Songwriting Competition." Winners of past "Spotlight Competitions" who have achieved success include singer Rachael Lampa, a recording artist for Word Records, and one of the exciting performers in the nightly concerts.
Attendees were treated to a series of six stellar concerts that featured upcoming and established artists in the Christian Music Industry, including Sandi Patty, Steve Green, Ginny Owens, Mark Schultz, Jars of Clay, Crystal Lewis, Oleta Adams, Third Day, Go Fish, Selah and the Martins.
A real highlight of the week included the "Artist Teaching Concerts" where artists performed and answered questions in an informal setting, prior to performing in the evening concerts. Having an opportunity to learn about the artists on a more personal level, and to gain an insight into their sources of inspiration and approaches to songwriting, helped to provide a greater understanding and appreciation of their work.
Judging by the positive response of participants to this year's Seminar in the Rockies - the event was a huge success. The Gospel Music Association is already accepting registrations for next year's event.
