The Heart & Soul of Britt Warren Inspires the Energy of 'Fearless'

Britt Warren is a refreshingly eclectic and inspirational artist. He is a fabulous musician and lyricists that gives his listener every ounce of energy and soul on every song he plays. I felt Britt's new album 'Fearless' epitomized what the word progressive means in music.

When you take into consideration what the root word progress means, Britt feels that at this point in his life he wants to feel productive, after all, life is too short and precious to be complacent.

Britt is quite spiritually motivated these days, though, there was a time he was strongly agnostic, if not atheist. However, due to one specific event, and subsequent events since then, his outlook has changed forever.

Britt is an advocate for the marriage of music and visual art, being that often it is the artist's last opportunity to guide the listeners to the place from which the music originated. The image of the small boy with the hatchet on the inside of the CD package for the "Fearless" album, as well as the accompanying images are the proverbial thread to unravel the remaining concept of the album.

RealAudio: "Fearless"

Britt explains, "I found a slide of myself (as a boy holding a hatchet) while sorting through some old family photos after my mother's death in 2000. Finding this image at a very reflective and introspective time in my life reminded me of the fact that I had always seen myself as a warrior. This led to the question, 'For what cause am I a warrior after living so many years without a cause?' The answer I came to was simply, 'the truth.' Warren, as many people do, felt he had been a victim of vain philosophies, of which there seems to be an abundance of these days. For the first time, he felt empowered to start seeing some of the things that are universally true - and what ultimately matters in a life lived. From my viewpoint, it is obvious that this artist, literally, puts his heart and soul into his work.

Believing that true inspiration will yield energy, the vehicle for Britt's inspiration was, as it often is, a series of life events that, at the time, may not have seemed very inspirational. From these events and circumstances, the result has been a new insight, previously unattainable due to his attitude towards life. It was his choice to embrace the insight rather than evade it, thus the music and energy of 'Fearless' became a by-product of that.

When all is said and done and the music is over, the final message from Britt Warren is, "If we are willing to heed the advice of those who have successfully made the trip of life before us, being well informed, we can proceed with our own journey much more fearlessly." I must say that he is very eloquent and reflective in his explanation of his music. I too feel well informed and enlightened by the gifts that Britt has given us in his music and words.

Album Review: Fearless

Britt Warren is positively 'Fearless' with his music. He goes from aggressive instrumental compositions to spiritually moving vocal tracks then back again to just the music, all in one extraordinary session. The cover of this CD is very mentally stimulating and could have several meanings dependent on what's happening in your life at the moment. For Britt, he seems to be looking at himself through his own eyes wandering the dessert of life, its debatable who's eyes are on the horizon, his own or that of his higher power. The interpretation is best left to you and decided upon after you listen to the entire album. Because of the varied styles he covers there is no other classification but progressive for his music. Keep in mind that you will hear rock, blues, jazz, and any combination thereof on this CD; it's all undoubtedly progressive by nature. You will understand why once you hear it all.

RealAudio: "db Shock"

"db Shock" is an electrifying rocking instrumental number, whereby "Unrude Mood" changes the pace entirely, giving you a taste of some sweet jazz. That kind of change in direction is not only impressive, but risqué when regarding putting all of your cards on the table as he does consistently throughout this recording. "Strong Hand" is quite a strong meaningful message for all of those open minded enough to receive it. He launches into a new age rap and sings of faith in someone other than thy self when life becomes hard. Man has a tendency to become hard as well, and having a strong hand to hold can redirect that negativity and get you back on the path that is right for you and those around you. The closing track, "Fearless," is a real rocking Satriani-like number that leaves you anticipating something more. The only alternative you have is to listen to it all over again, and that I would highly recommend. There is so much going on in these 11 tracks that you are bound to miss something along the way, whether it is a great guitar lick or a word with impact that could change the perspective on your entire day. There is more to the music than meets the eye(s) on this CD, have a look, you may be surprised with what you find.
