Gnutella2, Gnutella3, Gnutella4...?
With the publication of the of the Gnutella2 specs and the latest Shareaza
beta, 220.127.116.11, the Gnutella2 network is shaping up well.
The past week has seen the spirit of peace and harmony return to the GDF
(well, almost), with Mike of Shareaza explaining himself, asking for input,
and developers of other Gnutella applications giving it.
He's emerged as a leader, and a very knowledgable one too. Just what
But is someone trying to overshadow Gnutella2?
The domain names 'gnutella3.com', 'gnutella3.org', 'gnutella3.net',
'gnutella4.com', 'gnutella4.org' and 'gnutella4.net' have been bought. The
question that's begging is:

Vincent Falco, AKA Vinnie, heads up BearShare. He's made up with Mike on
the GDF, but is he plotting to release his own Gnutella3, at some point, in
a bid to steal the limelight from Gnutella2?
Or is he simply being a good guy and trying to make sure the whole process
In this post, Vinnie says of Mike "he should just turn over
his domain name [gnutella2.com] to the owner of gnutella.com".
Is this what Vinnie plans to do with new acquisitions? Or is there
something else afoot?
If Vinnie's intentions are honourable, why hasn't he announced this
