BBC London Drops Five Great Music Shows - But 'Londumb' Campaign In Motion
"BBC has DUMBED DOWN its London radio station - LDN - in a bid to increase
Londoners are calling for BBC LDN - as a public service broadcaster - to
return to being an intelligent, witty and informed station, focusing on the
capital's rich cultural and musical life.
LONDUMB claims the Beeb is dumbing down programming:
BBC London 94.9 recently cut five specialist music programmes and now
Londumb at www.londumb.co.uk has launched a campaign to, "reverse the
dumbing down of this classic station is already in full swing".
The axed shows, "listened to by fans the world via the internet," include
the Ross Allen, Coldcut, Dr. Bob Jones, Kevin Le Gendre and Imran Khan
programmes and the Beeb's management say the others are safe.for the time
The shows were , and were vital to the process of breaking and developing
"In a move out of tune with the BBC's own remit to support local music and
arts, the shows have been replaced by inane chat, which - sorry BBC London -
any number of commercial and national stations do better," says Londumb.
"The BBC has already received hundreds of complaints about the axing, which
add to a growing wave of public frustration about the station's demise."
It adds that a "superb night of music (think Coldcut, Ross Allen, Dr. Bob
Jones and more)" is being readied for the New Year.
