One In The Same
An Interview with One Man Army
This ONE (two, three) MAN ARMY consists of Jack Dalrymple (lead guitar/vocals), Heiko Schrepel (bass/vocals), and Chip Hanna (drums/vocals). OMA continues to fight, I mean, write, sing, and perform for each and every man. This OMA doesn't fight over property, money, power, or control. Their cause is bigger than any land mass, for it is the essence of the struggle within each one of us.
I spoke to Heiko, who was Commander-In-Chief in charge of this interview, while OMA was in the midst of their US tour promoting their new CD, Rumors And Headlines, (BYO Records). OMA seemed more like warriors to me, given their furious march from coast to coast. On this particular day, Heiko agreed with me that interviews could be boring at times to the readers. So, keeping that in mind and forgetting that the volume was accidentally off on my tape recorder, our conversation went something like this:
[Ronni Marcus] At first I thought your "rumors and headlines" was a reflection of how many view writers and maybe even big media, in general. However, after reading more closely the lyrics in "Rotting In The Doldrums" I think it's an even deeper reflection of human potential to inflict pain on one another. No?
Heiko Right, basically it's about the stuff, not always pleasant, that we all deal with in life.
[Ronni Marcus] Thank you, thank you for your lyrics. I read somewhere that Jack said the lyrics are like opening a book. Given that, what's the ending?
Heiko The ending is all up to you. It's open-ended...whatever you decide to do with them.
Let's open the discussion up utilizing OMA lyrics..."Success Isn't All It's Said To Be, Your Worth Makes Up Our Inequality." "We're One, One In The Same. "Open Your Eyes, Call Their Bluff." Fighting for the "Next Generation " where there is "No Controlling?"
[Ronni Marcus] Name a few people you value or love?
Heiko Flogging Molly, they're like family ... one that loves one another. Billie Joe Armstrong and Kevin Army from Green Day and Adeline Records, who took us under their wing and put us on the map, so to speak. Of course we can't forget BYO Records and Lisa, our tour manager. Lisa gets a lot done; maybe it helps at times not to be a man. Lisa took it like a man yesterday, though, when we almost went down as we slipped and slided on the roads of Colorado yesterday.
[Ronni Marcus] Did you know touring could be dangerous?
In summary, with One Man Army, draft is needed only in a mug. Let's all make a toast to what the founders of BYO Records who so eloquently stated, "Every generation should realize the responsibility to change what they feel is wrong in the world." Enlist me already! www.ManArmysf.com .
