Title: The Best of The Definitive American Songbook Volume 1 (A-I) & Volume 2 (I-Z)
Label: Liberty/Capitol (
Genre: Vocals/ Pop, Traditional, Jazz

The Best of The Definitive American Songbook Volume 1 (A-I) & Volume 2 (I-Z) is exactly what it claims to be, thirty-six timeless classics featuring legendary jazz and pop artists gathered on two discs. Simple put anyone that has a true appreciation for great music and lyrics will enjoy these CDs. I do not hold an ounce of uncertainty in my mind about that.

I remember hearing many of these songs when I was a child, my parents had many albums including old 78 LPs that I used to give a spin, as I recall "Flight of the Bumblebee" was one of my favorites. That particular song is not part of this set but there are some real memorable tunes to jog your memory. Johnny Mathis singing "Misty" makes you feel warm as toast inside and "Baby It's Cold Outside" reminds me of all the tough New England winters. I also recall giggling over this song, I am not sure why but I thought it was funny. It was all part of being a kid. Now as an adult, I can see why my folks loved this music so much.

This kind of collection could easily turn into several more volumes and I sincerely hope that it does! There is not one song that you will not be able to relate to in some way and that is a given no matter what your age is. All I can think of is my parents and my childhood when I hear this great music and that is one of the sweet things of life to enjoy and treasure. This music is all about growing up in America and being a part of an ever-changing culture seen through the eyes of entertainers.
