Event Review: Aerosmith 'Honkiní On Bobo Tour'
The Tweeter Center, Mansfield, MA
Event Title: Honkiní On Bobo Tour 2004, The Tweeter Center, Mansfield, MA
Date: June 24, 2004
Backed by a handful of amps (and not much more), Bostonís Bad Boys (of
Blues?) mixed standards with even older standards and business with pleasure
as they plugged their latest album, the yankee Delta Blues collection Honkiní
On Bobo. After filming three live performances of "Cryin" that featured
starlet/singer Christina Millan, star of the forthcoming Elmore Leonard
interpretation "Be Cool," the band took the show to the other side with a
strafing streak through the song of the same name.
When the nylons curtains pulled back to reveal band-inspired neon signs, the honky-tonk Bobo-fest began with a run through "Road Runner," a raving "Baby, Please Donít Go,"
and a punishing "Shame, Shame, Shame" that got the room rockiní and brought
the sought-after Blues club feel to the expansive outdoor venue. Amidst
these classic covers were renditions of original hits such as a pulsing
"Dream On," a participatory "Draw the Line," and an audience choice "I Donít
Wannaí Miss a Thing."
Combining Brad Whitfordís shoegazing casual with Tom
Hamiltonís windblown cool, Joey Kramerís hair-sharp rim shots and the
ever-dramatic escapades of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Aerosmith showed once
again that, whether it be old Blues or new Diane Warren pabulum, they know
how to rock it right.
