Farrah Franklin: On Her Own And On Her Way
Are you scratching your head wondering why the name
Farrah Franklin is so familiar to you? Well, if you are, let me jog
your memory. Farrah was a member of the Grammy award winning group
Destiny's Child for 5 months in 2000. Claiming creative differences,
Farrah and Destiny's Child went their separate ways. Whatever the
reason for the split, Farrah never let it keep her down. Appearing
in videos for artists like RL of Next, Mr. Cheeks and Kurupt was
just the beginning. Now signed to rapper Fabulous' record label,
Street Family, Farrah's looking to fulfill her destiny her way. I
chatted with Farrah from her home in California where she dished on
her new album, hot celebs and working to take care of her family.
[Tracey Johnson] How are you doing right now?
Farrah Franklin I'm doing great. I am very satisfied with my career and how it's
going. I am managing all aspects of my career.
[Tracey Johnson] So, what are some of the projects you're working on?
Farrah Franklin Right now, I'm working with RL of Next and I'm doing some songs
with him. I did a song with Method Man and I'm also working with
this other artist, Jimmy Cozier, which is Clive Davis' first male
artist. I might possibly be doing a song with Ja Rule. I've been
writing all of the songs I've recorded so far.
[Tracey Johnson] Who are some of the producers you're working with?
Farrah Franklin Damon Elliott, Jason Edmons, RL and Co-Stars. The list goes on,
but that's just a few.
[Tracey Johnson] Are you doing other things like movies and modeling?
Farrah Franklin Yeah. I have two movie deals in the works right now.
[Tracey Johnson] What movies have you done already?
Farrah Franklin They were little parts, but I did a small part in "Trippin."
[Tracey Johnson] Yes, I saw that.
Farrah Franklin You did? Oh Goodness! "Trippin" was actually the only movie I did. I did a lot of theater.
Time-out for Fashion
[Tracey Johnson] Where do you like to shop?
Farrah Franklin My favorite clothing store I would have to say.....I like BEBE.
BeeBee, BayBay, however you say it, B-E-B-E!
[Tracey Johnson] What's your favorite accessory?
Farrah Franklin My cross. I have a cross my dad gave me when I was younger and I
wear it all the time. I don't take it off.
[Tracey Johnson] When you shop, what do you find yourself buying a lot?
Farrah Franklin Pink clothes. Anything pink. It just catches my eye.
[Tracey Johnson] What are your fashion must-haves?
Farrah Franklin I love shoes! I don't like clunky heels. I'm like real picky with shoes.
Listen Up Fellas
[Tracey Johnson] What kind of guy are you looking for?
Farrah Franklin I like a guy who's spontaneous because I don't have like a lot of
time to plan things. So, I like a guy I can call and be like, "Hey!
Lets go to Hawaii or let's go somewhere," and he's like, "OK!"
Everything shouldn't have to be planned. My schedule's so hectic
that I need a spontaneous person--and a funny person.
[Tracey Johnson] Do you have any celebrity crushes?
Farrah Franklin No.....I think umm, Method Man is cute.
[Tracey Johnson] What's your idea of the perfect date?
Farrah Franklin The perfect date to me would be....I like playing lazar tag,
goin' to dinner and then...I like bowling, too.
Trusting and Caring
[Tracey Johnson] If there was one thing you could change about yourself what would it be?
Farrah Franklin I think I'm too nice. I trust too easily. My friends are always
getting on me because I'm always giving my last and looking out for
everybody else before I look out for myself. So, I think I would put
a little more time into myself instead of always worrying about what
everyone else wants and not worrying about myself, 'cus if I don't
worry about myself, nobody else will.
[Tracey Johnson] What is your number one goal in life?
Farrah Franklin My number one goal in life is to be able to have my mother, my
dad, my brother and sister taken care of where they don't have a
want or need. I can put my brother through college and I'm living
satisfactory to my needs. It's just like, performing is like the best
thing. It's a great feeling when you can make somebody smile from
your voice. That's just the best feeling in the world.
