Deadline: January 27, 2006

A joint project of Meet The Composer (www.meetthecomposer.org) and the National Endowment for the Arts (www.arts.gov), Commissioning Music/USA supports not-for-profit performing and presenting organizations that wish to commission new works.

The Commissioning Music/USA program accepts applications on a rotating basis. The 2006 program will support the commissioning of collaborative works in dance, installation, opera, performance art, and theater. The 2007 program will support the commissioning of concert works for small ensemble, orchestra, chorus, and soloist.

Applications to the Commissioning Music/USA program are submitted by a presenter, ensemble, or exhibition space wishing to commission a new work by collaborating artists.

Grants provide support for composer and librettist com- missioning fees, copying costs, and a range of support services. A single organization wishing to commission a new work can apply for up to $15,000 toward the artists' commissioning fees. A group of organizations wishing to co-commission a new work can apply for up to $30,000 toward the artists' commissioning fees. No support for administration or production expenses is available.

Applicant artists must be based in the U.S. (either as citizens or permanent residents); reside year-round in the U.S. for the duration of the proposed commission; and not be enrolled in a degree-granting program.

Applicant organizations must be based in the U.S. and be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Organizations eligible to apply include performing groups or presenters that present a minimum of eight to ten performances annually or gallery/exhibition spaces that have been in continuous operation for more than three years. Organizations cannot be student or amateur groups.
