Why did you decide to attend ASCAP NY Sessions?
I had heard good things about the yearly ASCAP conference in LA,so when they decided to host a one-day version in NY (where I'm based), I decided to look into it. The panel discussions sounded interesting, so those and the networking aspect convinced me it would be a worthwhile event. Oh, and having Rob Thomas as the key note interview definitely sealed the deal!
What was the most important thing you took away from the one-day conference?
I'd say the interview with Rob Thomas was the most impactful, largely because of what he conveyed about the importance of work ethic and songwriting craft. Though, even more than what he said, was his personality. He was very down to earth and relatable. On the several occasions that I met or heard of top artists in the business, I've encountered personalities that I feel I can really relate to on a personal level, and hearing Rob was one of those instances.
What is the biggest benefit of being an ASCAP member?
I'd say, for me, thus far, this event. To be honest, I probably haven't take full advantage of all ASCAP has to offer. I am hoping to step that up this year.
What major projects or ambitions do you have lined-up for 2009?
My plan for '09 is to record my 2nd CD (probably a full-length), and also to start performing with a band again - I was in a 3-piece until the end of '07 and have been performing solo since). I'd also like to do some more regional and national touring. Oh yeh, if i can squeeze it in, maybe some world domination!
