Kirk Davis - The Artist Formerly Known As Little Kirk
By Lady Zimma & Miss Mention, Dainty Crew [09-11-2001]
Avid followers of Shocking Vibes Production artist Beenie Man who have seen him in concert will no doubt have come across another Shocking Vibes artist, Kirk Davis formerly known as Little Kirk, as he usually tours with The Doctor.
This talented singer was born on December 28th 1970 in Kingston Jamaica and raised in Waterhouse, Uptown and Ewarton. He went by the name of Little Kirk for 16 years before deciding it was time for a change and to use his real name because he felt, "when I was using that name, I was much smaller, slim and everything." Since things have changed, he regrouped and made a change.
Patrick Roberts discovered Kirk back in Waterhouse when he used to hang around Black Scorpio sound with people like General Trees and Echo Minott. Patrick had a sound system back in those days and he heard Kirk sing and as time progressed and Patrick went into production, Kirk was right there alongside singing. Kirk's singing inspiration was Junior Reid.
So far Kirk has had a number of successful singles to date including 'Man In The Mirror', 'Ghetto Girl' and 'Can It Be Me'. He also has an album called 'Natural'. His inspiration for song lyrics comes from everyday issues in life.
Kirk has performed worldwide, but would love to go to Brazil as he says, "I heard they take time to appreciate Reggae music."
Being in the Shocking Vibes camp means that Kirk has worked with a number of artists including Tanto Metro, Devonte, Beenie Man, Terror Fabulous and Wyclef. He has also worked with producers such as Computer Paul, Bobby Digital and Jammys.
Kirk has his own label on which he has produced artists such as Red Rat, Goofy, Phoebe 1, Tanto Metro and Devonte. He also enjoys listening to sounds such as Renaissance, Stone Love and Rebel T.
As he has been in the music business for such a long time, Kirk had some advice for up and coming artists, "Give a lot of praises to God. Have faith, believe in yourself, stay away from drugs and just be positive in everything you do." He believes if he hadn't gone into the business, he would be a mechanic.
Kirk's plans for the future centre round singing much as his spare time does and he says he wants to continue "just singing more good songs for people to listen."
His final message to his fans is for them to look out for Kirk Davis, as he no longer goes by the name of Little Kirk. He is more mature, still has beautiful vocals and definitely has a lot more in store for everyone.
